The entire series of the 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum' comprised six volumes and was published and printed from 1572 towards 1619. Detailed bird's eye views of four major fortified cities on islands in the Mediterranean Sea. Depicted are the city of Calaris in Sardegnia, Malta, Rhodos and Famagusta in Cyprus.
